mrs. dolceamore's famous friend-making stromboli

When we moved to Pennsylvania in '97 I found it really hard to make friends. From the beginning, I thrived as the new, untouchable weird girl but eventually I needed to make friends. When someone at my old school wanted to get popular, they threw a make-out party. From the immediate and frantic questions from my Catholic school compadres, a make-out party would cause more confusion and scandal than Kevin Bacon getting footloose in his danceless town.

So I threw a boring hang-out in my basement with no plans for entertainment (I have gotten much better at party-planning, don't you worry). We were a handful of 13 years olds, sitting in our own pre-pubescent sweat, when my mother came downstairs with a steaming plate of pepperoni stromboli. Silence was replaced with, well more silence, as we fed our nerves with cheesy, pepperoni-y goodness. I like to think that was the moment when I stopped being the strange new girl to the awesome girl from New Jersey with the really Italian mom.

Mrs Dolceamore always threw together an awesome stromboli when I had friends over or family movie nights. Stock your fridge with Pillsbury Pizza Dough and your favorite pizza fixin's to get you through the rest of the winter, or at the very least, this SuperBowl weekend.

This is my 4 cheese stromboli but it works great with any pizza ingredients. Mrs Dolceamore's two greatest hits were pepperoni and broccoli.

What are you planning on cooking for the big game?
